But what do we do in times such as these, when millions of people are going through terribly difficult times? Are we still going to give to the Lord, knowing that we need every last penny to get through the next day, the next week, the next month?

The answer, of course is yes. When we give to the Lord, it shouldn't be out of a 'surplus' when things are going well, because then when things get tough, the giving stops. In order to be joyful even in difficult times, we need to realize that God is faithful to us even when we are not faithful to Him, and so we should recognize that our best belongs to the Lord, no matter how difficult our situation may be. Our hard times today are nothing compared to what Jesus went through for us. Jesus went through the ultimate 'crisis' on the cross, so that we won't have to.

The next time you feel your spirits slipping, just think about God's grace... then you'll realize you have every right to be joyful, even in difficult times.
